Quotes of the Day 20080319

“Only free people can hold their purpose and their honor steady to a common end, and prefer the interests of mankind to any narrow interest of their own.” — Woodrow Wilson 1856 – 1924, 28th President of the United States

What is freedom? For me, a big part of freedom is being able to go where you want, when you want and do whatever you want with whomever you want without having to worry about how much any of it costs and of course without preventing anyone else from doing the same. It is being able to do and say whatever I want without harming anyone else.

If I can get myself to that level of freedom that frees me to work for the good of all mankind. It is truly the rare individual who can focus on doing big things when they themselves or their family is starving. Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom first herself, then went back to help free others. What do you think?

  1. Freedom to me is an illusion. We are imprisoned by the limits set by our minds. We are survivors and to survive we willingly enslave ourselves to conventions, norms, rules and laws. What we do, when we do, how we do, is usually because – of our conditioning, of the way we were brought up, of who influenced us in our formative years.

Freedom cant exist without Boundaries and Responsibilities, so its a contradiction. In our everyday lives, I doubt if we are really free every breath we take. Do we do the Jobs we Want to do or do we do the ones we Have to do? Do we really let others know how we feel at any moment? Do we say what we want to at any moment? I dont think so, we(I am generalizing here) say and do what is Appropriate under the given circumstances(imho). We only seem like we are Free.
